Welcome Letter

The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing is pleased to share its Strategic Plan as the recently elected Secretariat of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers for Nursing & Midwifery. It is our honor to connect, collaborate, and advocate for the members of the Global Network in this capacity, and we look forward to a full and exciting term.

At the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, we are dedicated to improving the health of individuals and diverse communities locally and globally through leadership and excellence in nursing education, research, practice, and service. As Secretariat, our globally minded team of nursing and public health leaders will seek to reflect these principles in the way we serve and connect with the Global Network.

In this Work Plan, you will find our vision, mission, guiding principles, goals & objectives. We have also provided our plan for communicating with the Global Network and its partners, as well as an overview of the network itself. We invite you to reach out to us for resources or assistance regarding the Global Network, and we look forward to connecting with you.

VISION

A Global Network of Nursing and Midwifery Leaders

MISSION

The mission of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers is to promote the Health For All populations through the collaboration, communication, and cohesion of the nursing and midwifery global community and its partners.

SECRETARIAT GOALS STATEMENT

As the independent rotary secretariat currently based in Baltimore, MD, USA, the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing carries out advocacy and evidence based policy activities within the framework of WHA resolutions and the WHO program of Work.

GLOBAL NETWORK STRUCTURAL DIAGRAM

KEY PROFESSIONAL AREAS OF THE GLOBAL NETWORK

  • Identify, support, and disseminate evidence-based activities that promote the WHO health agenda by highlighting the strategic opportunities for nursing and midwifery global leaders.
  • Maintain awareness, promote sensitivity, and support Global Network responsiveness to emerging health care news, issues, and crises in accordance with WHO health agenda.
  • Secretariat to disseminate of relevant best practice tools and policies in support of WHO health agenda.
  • Organize biennial conference to share contributions of the Global Network to WHO programme agenda and facilitate collaboration and global nursing and midwifery leadership development within the work of the Global Network
  • Make information and resources regarding the WHO CC Global Network and its partners publicly available on its website.
  • Secretariat to create and develop social media engagement to disseminate information, events, and highlights of the Global Network members and its partners
  • Promote global human resources for health development through the provision of key resources and communications.
  • Advocate for the nursing and midwifery role, leadership, and contribution to the WHO health agenda.
  • Secretariat to continuously strategize with the members of the Global Network on how to engage nursing and midwifery leaders in the implementation of the WHO health agenda.
  • Secretariat to promote the Global Network participation in key WHO events and those of other major global health organizations.
  • Promote new synergies, advance impact, and foster joint projects and collaborations between the Global Network
  • Optimize Global Network alignment with WHO programmes
  • Secretariat to highlight the contributions of the Global Network to WHO health agenda (e.g., biannual publication of the Links Magazine).
  • Actively communicate and interact with WHO leadership to contribute to and foster WHO health agenda.
  • Foster the Global Network contributions to key health and development forums
  • Documenting the contributions and influence of nursing and midwifery through the Global Network website and relevant documents.
  • Build and enhance collaborations across the GN to further WHO health agenda.
  • Seek strategic, supportive partnerships with key global health organizations with a shared vision for WHO health agenda
  • Advocate for the advancement of the nursing profession by leveraging the resources of the network and its partners to influence local, national and global health policy
  • Assess, monitor and track emerging health issues and crises
  • Creation/maintenance of WHO CC expertise database
  • Partner with WHO and participate in/generate research as appropriate to further WHO health agenda.
  • Create/maintain an accessible, enhanced database on the WHO CCs (including TORs, Personnel, Projects, country links, Publications, Impact, etc.)
  • Support development context-appropriate HRH in accordance with WHO programme agenda
  • Building linkages and connections across various platforms to promote the nursing and midwifery global workforce

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

GOAL 1

Promote health for all through collaboration, communication, and strategic partnership.

Identify, support, and disseminate evidence-based activities that promote the WHO Health For All vision by highlighting the strategic opportunities for nursing and midwifery global leaders.

ACTION 1.1.1

Secretariat to continuously follow at least three sources of global health events, academic literature, and collaborative opportunities.

ACTION 1.1.2

Secretariat to internally consult on key literature, events, and opportunities relevant to the interests of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers and partners and disseminate information accordingly at least once per quarter.

Maintain awareness, promote sensitivity, and support Global Network responsiveness to emerging health care news, issues, and crises.

ACTION 1.2.1

Secretariat to continuously follow at least three sources of global health news from established and reputable global health partners, news sources, and organizations.

ACTION 1.2.2

Secretariat to internally consult on key issues and emerging crises relevant to the interests of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers and partners and disseminate information accordingly.

ACTION 1.2.3

Secretariat to seek Global Network collaboration and consultation on appropriate means of response and work to ensure agreed upon actions are carried through.

Seek strategic, supportive partnerships with key global health organizations with a shared vision for Health For All.

ACTION 1.3.1

Secretariat to seek out at least two new strategic global health partners to share in the vision and mission of the Global Network and its existing partners.

ACTION 1.3.2

Secretariat to engage new and existing global partners in 70% of all events, communications, and collaborations with the Global Network.

GOAL 2

Promote global human resources for health development through the provision of key resources and communications.

Secretariat to utilize academic literature, Global Network insight, and global partner expertise to investigate the current status and prospective future for human resources for health as it pertains to the nursing and midwifery global workforce.

ACTION 2.1.1

Secretariat to research at least 20 sources of peer-reviewed literature, grey literature, informal key informant interviews, and other sources to support greater understanding of the nursing and midwifery role in human resources for health.

ACTION 2.1.2

Secretariat to develop at least one publication, website, strategic vision, or briefing for dissemination to the Global Network at least once during its time as Secretariat.

Secretariat to disseminate of best practice tools and policies for support of human resources for health development.

ACTION 2.2.1

Secretariat to continuously follow at least three sources of human resources for health events, academic literature, and collaborative opportunities.

ACTION 2.2.2

Secretariat to internally consult on key literature, events, and opportunities relevant to the interests of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers and partners and disseminate information at least once per quarter.

GOAL 3

Advocate for the nursing and midwifery role, leadership, and contribution to the WHO Health For All platform.

Secretariat to continuously strategize with the members of the Global Network on how to engage nursing and midwifery leaders in the implementation of the WHO Health For All vision.

ACTION 3.1.1

Secretariat to communicate with all members of the Global Network to solidify the various perspectives and approaches to contributing to the Health for All vision at least twice per year.

ACTION 3.1.2

Secretariat to highlight the contributions of the Global Network in its biannual publication of the Links Magazine.

Secretariat to promote the Global Network participation in key WHO events and those of other major global health organizations.

ACTION 3.2.1

Secretariat to continuously follow at least three sources of global health events and collaborative opportunities.

ACTION 3.2.2

Secretariat to internally consult on key literature, events, and opportunities relevant to the interests of the Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centers and partners and disseminate information accordingly at least once per quarter.

ACTION 3.2.3

Secretariat to seek confirmation of participation of Global Network members in various global health events and coordinate in-person meetings with strategic partners at these events.

ACTION 3.2.4

Secretariat leadership team to personally attend at least two global health events per year to promote the active participation of Global Network members.

Secretariat to highlight Global Network participation in global health events in its biannual publication of the Links Magazine.
